Soap Making Instructional: Citrus Soap Slice
This soap can also be made using lime, lemon, or pink grapefruit. Made with our popular 3-inch diameter tube mold which is cut into slices. White soap is used to accent the embedded slices.
Here's what you need:
Round Tube Mold- The orange slices are poured in our 3-inch tube mold and then sliced lengthwise into wedges.
Neon Orange Liquid Gel Color
Melt & Pour Soap Base- both clear and white
Citrus Fragrance Oil - we suggest 2 teaspoon of fragrance per pound of melted soap base if using our fragrance oils and soap bases.
Rubbing alcohol in a bottle that has a misting pump. The rubbing alcohol is spared on soap to that the different soap layers adhere.
GETTING STARTED
Step One
Pour orange colored soap into 3-inch tube mold. Use clear soap base and color with our neon orange liquid gel colorant. Scent with citrus, orange, or tangerine fragrance.
Step Two
After un-molding from tube, cut lengthwise into 5 to 6 sections. Your goal is to cut the pieces to resemble orange wedges.
Step Three
Arrange 5-6 sections inside a clean 3-inch diameter tube mold. Space citrus slices evenly. You may need to do some additional trimming on the orange pieces to get them to fit uniformly.
Step Four
Melt white soap base and scent with citrus fragrance (or lime, lemon, tangerine fragrance). Pour a small layer of white soap base in the bottom of the 3-inch tube mold. This layer will help allow the orange pieces to set up so they will not move as the final layer of white base is poured into the tube mold.
Step Five
When the initial layer of white soap base has set up slightly, liberally spray a layer of rubbing alcohol onto the orange strips. Continue to (slowly) pour the remaining white soap until it covers the orange pieces.
Step Six
Let soap set up and then un-mold. Slice tube soap into 1" thick slices using our stainless steel miter box. Wrap soap to help retain scent and prevent "glycerin dew" .
